At the EAR, we believe there is more to this life than what we can interpret with our five senses. Or, at the very least, we believe that this type of belief is an essential part of the human experience, and that it should be documented, researched, studied, and understood, in much the same way that any mainstream religious movement would be.

We collect objects. Digitally, we look for high-quality PDF scans of books and pamphlets that are now in the public domain. We add those files to our digital library, along with as much metadata as possible, to make it easier for you to find what you’re looking for.

Physically, we collect books, pamphlets, tarot and oracle decks, and other divination paraphernalia, the vast majority of which is intended to circulate out of our guerrilla library, a private members-only curbside experience.

The EAR is always growing and always looking to do more. Read on to find out more about us, and email archivist at esotericarchive dot org with any other questions.

Our Mission

  • To record and document esoteric and spiritual/fraternal movements in and around Rochester, NY, as well as across the globe
  • To provide a space for the general public to use this collection for research and personal use
  • To place these esoteric, spiritual, and fraternal movements, orders, and writings, in their rightful place in historic legitimacy

How will we fulfill our mission?

  • The staff of the EAR will work to create robust and powerful search tools and methods that allow users to curate the EAR collection in myriad ways that places each object in the context of time, place, and social movement.
  • The staff of the EAR will actively search out digital materials that conform to our Collection Plan; we will catalog and record those materials, making them available to the general public via this website.
  • The staff of the EAR will actively seek out physical materials that conform to our Collection Plan; we will catalog those materials and make them available to the public via a physical brick-and-mortar location.

Support the EAR

There are two main ways to support the work of the EAR:

Donate materials to the Guerrilla Library via our Amazon Wishlist – If you’d like to send us anything via Amazon, please feel free to buy the cheaper, used, copies of materials. If you’d like to add a “donated by” message to the inside cover of the book, include a note in your Amazon order, and/or reach out to us via the email address on this page.

Become a Patron of the EAR – This is the best way to keep up to date with the work being done, and it is also the only way to become a member with borrowing privileges. Patrons who join at the Practicus level or higher can borrow books and materials from the Guerrilla Library in downtown Rochester, NY.
